Beyond the Pose: 5 Creative Activity Ideas for Your Oklahoma City Engagement Session
Adventurous Couple Raul & Kassidy from Oklahoma City on Castle Bridge in Rye Colorado
Hey guys, Rob here! As experienced wedding photographers in Oklahoma City, Ciara and I hear the same thing from almost every couple before their engagement session:
"We’re so awkward in front of the camera. What do we even do with our hands?"
First off, don't worry—that is completely normal! But our favorite trick to cure those "camera jitters" is simple: Don't just stand there and pose—DO SOMETHING!
Moving toward an activity-based engagement session is the best way to get those genuine, unposed, laughing-until-it-hurts photos that Ciara and I are known for. It turns a "photoshoot" into a "date night" where we just happen to be tagging along with our cameras.
If you’re planning your engagement photos and want them to feel like you, here are five of our favorite activity suggestions right here in the OKC metro.
Engagement session at Hefner lake in Oklahoma City
1. Reel in the Love: Fishing at Lake Hefner
If you and your fiancé love the outdoors, why not bring your poles along? Oklahoma is full of beautiful lakes, but Lake Hefner is right in the heart of the city and offers incredible backdrops.
The Vibe: Relaxed, adventurous, and authentic.
Why it works for photos: You aren’t staring at the lens; you’re focused on the line, laughing when you snag a branch, or hyping each other up when you catch a fish. This results in incredibly natural movement and genuine interaction.
Pro-Tip: Lake Hefner has those stunning, wide-open sunset views that look absolutely killer in our True to Color style.

2. A Sweet Stroll Through Scissortail Park
Sometimes the best activity is just taking a beautiful walk together. Scissortail Park in Downtown OKC is perfect for this because there is so much variety.
The Vibe: Modern, joyful, and quintessential OKC.
Why it works for photos: We can grab some ice cream from a nearby food truck, walk across the stunning Skydance Bridge, or just sit in the grass. Walking keeps you moving, which prevents stiff, rigid poses. It’s perfect for capturing that "butterflies in your stomach" kind of love.
Titus & Nichole’s romantic trip to IHOP in Oklahoma City
3. Date Night Dinner & Drinks
Do you guys have a "place"? A favorite local OKC patio or cocktail bar? If you are total foodies, let’s go there!
The Vibe: Chic, romantic, and editorial.
Why it works for photos: This is ideal for couples who want their engagement photos to look like a high-end spread in a magazine. Sitting across from each other with a glass of wine or sharing an appetizer immediately breaks down the barrier of the camera.
Local Spot Ideas: We love the patios in the Midtown OKC or Auto Alley areas for that perfectly candid "urban night out" aesthetic, or you can even go with a more simple IHOP Date Night like Titus & Nichole!
Willy and Lakishia Dancing at the Fordson Hotel in Oklahoma City
4. Dancing the Night Away
You don’t need a dance floor; you just need the city streets. Put on your favorite playlist and let Ciara and I capture the movement.
The Vibe: Edgy, joyful, and cinematic.
Why it works for photos: Dancing introduces movement, which is a photographer's best friend. Whether it's a slow sway or a goofy spin, it adds dynamic energy to your gallery.
Pro-Tip: This activity is made for our hybrid photo and video style. Filming you guys dancing under the bistro lights in Bricktown creates the kind of cinematic, authentic clip that will make your engagement film unforgettable.

5. Cozy At-Home Lifestyle Session
Finally, if you’re total homebodies, let’s keep it intimate. An at-home session is about capturing your real life together.
The Vibe: Intimate, cozy, and deeply personal.
Why it works for photos: It takes away all the stress of public interaction. We can capture you making coffee, cuddling with your dog on the couch, or even having a pillow fight. These sessions result in some of the most raw and emotional photos we ever take.
Let’s Plan Your Story
Whatever activity you choose, the goal of your engagement session is the same: to have fun and get comfortable with us before your wedding day. Whether you’re booking our stand-alone photography or the full Everything Hybrid Package, we want to capture the legacy you are building.
